Chicken House is an independent-minded children’s book publishing company that loves new writers, brilliant artists and fresh ideas. Founded in 2000 by Barry Cunningham, the original publisher of Harry Potter, over the last 25 years Chicken House has demonstrated that a small, creative publishing team based in Somerset can make an impact on an international scale, publishing authors such as Cornelia Funke, James Dashner, Kiran Millwood Hargrave and Maz Evans.
Their Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition for unpublished children’s writers is the UK’s biggest competition of its kind, and has kick-started the careers of many high-profile children’s writers – including Nicki Thornton, Efua Traoré and Costa Award-winning Jasbinder Bilan.
